Can I change my iCloud email (Apple ID) to a new iCloud address?

Hi everyone,

I currently have an Apple ID linked to an iCloud email address (e.g., [currentname]@icloud.com). I’d like to switch this to a completely new iCloud address (e.g., [newname]@icloud.com), which doesn’t exist yet. In other words, I want to create a brand-new iCloud email and set it as my Apple ID.

I’ve also purchased several apps through the App Store with my current Apple ID. My questions are:

1. Is it possible to link my existing Apple ID to a brand-new iCloud email address (one I need to create)?

2. Will I still have access to all of my purchases (apps, etc.) after this change?

3. What’s the best step-by-step approach to do this without losing any data, purchases, iCloud storage, or subscriptions?

Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you can share!

You can change it if you have an iPhone running iOS 18.1 or later or an iPad running iPadOS 18.1 or later. See information in Change your Apple Account primary email address - Apple Support including the following excerpt:

If you only have an iCloud email address associated with your Apple Account

You can change your iCloud email address using a device with iOS 18.1 or later, and iPadOS 18.1 or later.

If your only email address associated with your account is an iCloud email address, you won’t see an option to Remove from Account. Instead, you’ll see an option to Change Email Address.

Choosing this option changes only your existing iCloud email address. You’ll continue to be able to use your iCloud Mail and the messages sent to it. Your new iCloud email address replaces the old email address.

You won't loose any purchases or iCloud storage.

See the following from my previous post:

Is the only address tha is associated with your account an iCloud email address? What options to you see when you choose "Change Email Address"?

Hi support, FoxFifth

Thank you for your response and the information regarding changing my Apple ID primary email address. I’ve reviewed the instructions and explored the options on my device (iPhone running iOS 18.1), but I don’t see an option to create a new iCloud email address and set it as my Apple ID.

Instead, the only option available seems to be to add an existing email address. Could you kindly clarify:

1. How can I create a brand-new iCloud email address and set it as my primary Apple ID?

2. Is there a specific step I might be missing, or a certain setting that needs to be enabled to see this option?

I appreciate your help in resolving this, as I’d like to ensure I follow the correct process without losing access to my purchases, subscriptions, and data.

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,

Mike
