Why is my Apple TV only playing audio?

We have a new Apple TV (4k?) device. It's hard wired to our router. Speed is 100 Mbps. We constant have issues with HBO-Max, Prime Video, and another. ( Don't rem right now). Netflix is good. It's super frustrating. All is see are tons of complaints on the internet. Minimal on apple support. I don't need super clear tv as long as it works. Our TV is older. Hdmi 1080p. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

We have a new Apple TV 4K device.

Congratulations! It’s my favorite device.

That should be enough by a substantial margin (1080p uses about 8 Mbps for high quality). Is 100 Mbps your plan with your ISP, or did you measure that on the Apple TV box? Speedtest app - App Store preview - Apple. Please try that test, with this app from the Apple TV App Store, and let us know your numbers from that.

Please describe your experience. Is it always or sometimes? Does it start out okay, then get worse? Does the video freeze, show artifacts, or go black?

Netflix uses adaptive bandwidth, and will throttle down on quality when it can’t push much data, so that the users ‘always’ gets a functional picture.

There are people complaining just about anything. Don’t worry about that. I try to handle each report separately, as the circumstances, setup, settings, equipment, home network, ISP, etc. can be a factor as well — which is often the actual cause.

That is fine. Apple TV can work with that just as well.

My thought is that something on your home network is not optimal. Is the ethernet cable from the router to the Apple TV a direct connection? Is there anything in between (device, connector in between cable segments, or something)? Is the ethernet cable rated Cat 5e or later (it should)? Are the plugs factory attached, or did someone do that manually [requires expertise and care, else you lose speed]? Are there power cables alongside the ethernet cable [requires extra shielding]? If the cable has been bend to a sharp corner, then there could be an internal fracture, resulting in slower speeds.
