What causes a long rectangle to appear on MacBook Air screen?

Yesterday, a long rectangle appeared on my 2020 Macbook Air. It is 2 inches wide and around 7 inches long. I saw an earlier post about this and was wondering if anyone knows what the problem is? Thank you.

Because this anomaly does not show up in a screenshot, the indication is that it's not a product of the graphics processor but more likely a problem with the LCD panel or the cable or connector to it. It's a hardware problem, not software. You should take the computer in to be evaluated by a qualified tech.

Your screen capture shows nothing like you describe...at least I cannot see it.

If this anomaly does not show in the screen shot you posted here (can you see it?), then it most likely is a hardware issue with the screen that does NOT show in a screen shot. You may wish to take an actual photo of the screen using your phone camera and post that here if it shows the issue.

If the camera photo of the screen shows the issue, it's most likely a hardware fault with the screen and you should contact Apple and set up a Gehius Bar reservation to have it eveluated in a Apple Store.

If it's indeed a hardware issue (as I suspect that it is), there is nothing that can be done here in this forum other than guide you to someone that can help you. I suggested in my post above that you make a Genius Bar reservation (which is a free of charge, in-(Apple)store evaluation) to have the device checked. Only Apple will be able to do that.
