Google vs Apple iCloud storage

Do I need to pay for both Google and Apple cloud storage?

Apple tech told me to cancel Google but then I’m notified I’ll lose access to my Gmail.

Do I need Apple iCloud also? Do they save the same things? How do I cancel iCloud storage if I don’t need both?

im paying 2.99 for 200gb, each!

iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 18

We have no way of knowing what you are using the storage for so don't know what you need.

The following article from Google has information on learning what you have in their cloud storage and information on how you may be able to clear some of that space. If you are in the U.S., you get a minimum of 15GB of Google cloud storage free> https://support.google.com/drive/answer/6374270?hl=en

If you are primarily a user of Apple devices it is usually more likely that you need Apple iCloud storage than Google storage but individual cases vary. The following has information you can use to determine what you are using iCloud storage for and on how you may be able to clear some of that space: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

If you decide to downgrade your iCloud storage, see: Cancel upgraded iCloud storage by downgrading to the free 5GB plan. See instructions in the following Apple article: Downgrade or cancel your iCloud+ plan - Apple Support

You don't need to pay for Google storage to use Google Mail. I don't and Gmail works just fine. However, if your free storage is full and you don't clear some of it or else pay for more, there won't be any space for new mail and your Gmail will not work.

See the following from my previous post. You can use that information to see what you are using the Google storage for and to possibly clear some of I:
