my friend gave me his old phone and we factory reset it and I put mine in and everything was ok for a bit but when I want to update my apps it tells me to put in my friends iCloud password so I reset it 3 more times but did not help and if I go to settings it does not show this “ghost” iCloud

Nope it was not reset correctly. There are many types of resets, such as Home Screen or Network Settings, but the one you want completely wipes the device and when you turn it on, you will see the "Hello" screen and need to set it up just like a new phone.
The reason why the phone is asking for a password from the previous user is because there is still an app on the phone that was downloaded by that user. Apps are tied to the user that downloaded them and ownership cannot be transferred to another user. When the app has an update, it will need that users credentials.
I reset it to the iPhone setup screen 4 times, and I forgot to add that my friend never purchased any apps on the iPhone and everything was erased, all the photos, contacts, everything except the iCloud for some reason, it just won’t go no matter how many times I try and it only does it when I update apps, it makes me use my actual iCloud password to Download new apps
