Why iPhone 8 is not supporting iOS 17/18?
The iPhone 8 has the same chip as the iPhone 10 but the iPhone 10 supports iOS 17/18 but iPhone 8 doesn’t. Why?
iPad Pro, iPadOS 18

According to MacTracker,
An iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X isn't capable of 17 or above; they require an A12 or better CPU. The iPhone XR, XS, and newer have a better one.

Maybe look into a verified older iPhone that has some forward
update path remaining; from a certified Apple repair store(?)
Resellers such as bestbuy might be OK; an independent
Apple Authorized service business, may be better source.
I've had several older models. Going forward at some point,
their path is pre-ordained by high priest of Apple. A newer
source of 'guaranteed workable iphone' should be sought.
My first edition SE1 still sees iOS 15.8.3, a backup iPhone 8
sits; needs replacement battery; still cost less than New one.
While I haven't bought into any all new tech, I can see how
the self-obsolete trail has no guard-rails; you can stay safe.
Oh I get it now. I have an iPhone X so now I’m like I’m only 1 phone away from the newest software and I’m a broke college student so I can’t get a new phone so I’m like 🤬🤬🤬
