Imessage on iphone is stuck in landscape. How do I get it to rotate to portrait?

How to regain control of text message direction on my iPhone 11 I went to reply to a text message on my iphone 11. I found it was in the landscape/horizontal position. I usually us the portrait setting but can use the landscape just by turning my phone. Somehow, it is stuck in the landscape position. I‘d try these steps:

Check in control center for having the rotation lock activated
restart iMessage
restart your iPhone
