Where can I download macOS Monterey?

Monterey doesn't appear to exist in the App Store anymore.

Have a 2017 iMac running Big Sur 11.7.10 & have read I should upgrade to Monterey before trying Ventura. I don't remember why I didn't upgrade way back when; I believe there were some concerns but don't recall them. Am I SOL?

Limnos:

I don't think that link How to download and install macOS - Apple Support information works any more -- have you actually tested trying to download the stand alone installers or methods referenced in that article? - I did unsuccessfully over days: How to download full installer Monterey t… - Apple Community

The following screenshot shows Safair address bar at discussions.apple.com

the App Store window open with GET loaded

with Software Update on top of that with the error:

Update not found

The requested version of macOS is not available.

Every method I tried Failed

I think they have been pulled from the server...

it was pretty easy to imagine what might work based on the screenshots and comments dialabrain posted because I knew what didn't work. But I am not sure if we are allowed to discuss the information w/o being moderated, but I will see if my post gets edited.

HERE IS HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE FULL MACOS INSTALLERS (what worked for Monterey):

1: Be booted off the macOS system you want to DOWNLOAD

2: go here How to download and install macOS - Apple Support> USE THE App Store METHOD> Click on Monterey (or the OS you are booted off of)

3: In App Store, click on GET

4: (you should get a DOWNLOAD button option> CLICK on it

5: Software Update will show a downloading progress bar

6: process will end with Applications (folder)> Install macOS Monterey icon

you can install from running that installer, or Create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support

Lastly Monterey is destined to become one of the classic macOSes to run the Intel Macs -- like 8.6, 9.1, 10.8.6 -- I would recommend if you want to run your macOS in the future be sure you have a full installer on hand

HERE IS A SCREENSHOT OF MY PROCESS (it reflects the 1-6 method and steps above in case it is deleted):

dialabrain:

I documented my steps ad nauseam on my link

including Hardware, OS versions, screenshots, steps

I am not exactly sure how you got to Software Update from what different method on the link Limnos posted -- or what hardware/OS you are on in that screenshot -- but I think if you were after the actual download (not an updater from a working OS automatically installing the update) it would take you to the

"Update not found

The requested version of macOS is not available."

that I and others have found

I do recall having Upgrade and Download options using various methods but in every case it ENDED in not available or not on server, except for the one scenario noted on my earlier notes ad nauseam

I would be more interested in seeing the end result -- the installer icon in applications (that I can use to make a USB boot installer) -- what hardware and OS version you are on -- the method and steps you took -- a screenshot can tell (me) a thousand words -- your SS doesn't really tell me anything (no disrespect intended)

Jan 3, 2025 7:34 PM in response to dialabrain

exactly what I was trying

I would still be interested in what machine and OS you did that on

and the method and steps you took

so I could try and duplicate your success

I don't need Monterey anymore -- I AM JUST CURIOUS NOW

I found an old Monterey 12.7 USB installer I set up a few years ago, it booted my Mac mini 2014, Erased the internal target SSD, and installed 12.7 -- Software Update updated that to 12.7.6

I just noticed your hardware

I have two 2017 5k iMacs running Mojave and Ventura

one 2019 5k iMac running Mojave and Sequoia

three macbook pro running Mojave and Big Sur

2 Mac mini 2014 running movaje

1 Mac mini 2011 running 10.6.8 (hax for the drivers)

I understand supported hardware and macOS

and much experience in the procedures noted

just sayin it is not working here...
