Recovering iPhone 16 Pro account with forgotten Apple ID password

we bought our daughter an iPhone 16 pro for Christmas. Her old phone is a 14. We went to transfer her data on to her new phone but she can’t remember her Apple ID password. I tried setting it up manually and got as far as receiving a code to her phone … which it accepted. It then asks to put in your old phone passcode which it repeatedly says is wrong. I also tried changing her password on her old phone but I get up to the same point where it won’t accept her passcode! I am getting increasingly frustrated!

anyone have any idea where I’m going wrong? Thanks

Note that a password and passcode are not the same thing.

Read the Apple Support document for what to do if you forgot the passCODE on an iPhone or iPad. Click here then select your device type if necessary --> If you forgot your iPhone passcode or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support - Which one you can use depends upon your equipment configuration.
