AppleTV+ - local languages

Hi everyone,

I am sometimes asking myself who is choosing available movie languages on streaming platforms such as AppleTV+... I live in Switzerland, and yes, I know, everyone thinks Swiss people only speak German, but actually 23% of the population speaks French and 8% Italian...

I wanted to watch the movie Argylle and it's available in many, many languages (including German, Italian, Spanish, Hindi, Japanese, ...) but not in French, whereas the movie is very likely available in French in Canada...

Any idea why this is the case and whether this could be updated, Apple people hopefully reading this?

Cheers

Movies and TV shows from the Apple TV+ catalog should have their audio languages and subtitle languages the same worldwide.

Movies have their audio languages and subtitle languages as the content provider (here: Apple) sees fit.

Argylle (2024) is available with these languages:

It should include French audio dubbing (both regular and Audio Descriptions). You may need to change the audio track or subtitle track from the default. Change subtitles or languages for videos in the Apple TV app - Apple Support

I’m not in Switzerland, so if it is indeed lacking French for you, then please contact the Apple Media Services support staff.

Sometimes they are, but usually the dubbing is quite good in French (compared e.g. to German, where it's usually terrible). I watch movies to chill out, English not being my mother tongue I have to concentrate more and therefore enjoy the chill session less ;-)

It's more a matter of principle. Switzerland is a small country indeed but we speak 3 major languages. For instance, when I bought a HomePod mini, French (Switzerland) was not available whereas French (France) was available since, like, 2 years. Our Frenchs are not that different. The result was that for a very long time, I wasn't even able to get SMS read out on the homepod just because the languages of the iPhone and the HomePod were different! Same at the launch of Apple CarPlay (needed additional time to work in Switzerland) and I can't even imagine what it's going to be for Apple Intelligence once available in French (France)... we will likely have to wait 2 more years even though our Frenchs are extremely close...

Many thanks for your answer. I already tried to change languages or subtitles but French doesn't even appear. We usually get the French (France) audio track in Switzerland as it may differ slightly from the Canadian version (dubbing voices are not always the same), but none of both appear in the listing. See what I get in the attached picture:

Thanks again for your prompt reply. Unfortunately, when clicking the link,

there is no option to communicate such issues as Apple always wants to link things with a product and propose you solutions, no open text fields anywhere to be found... I tried to look around Apple's website but they seem not to want customers to contact them except eventually by phone, for which I have no time.

Thanks anyway for your help, glad to see I am not totally out of my mind... ;-)
