HP Envy 6555e software needed not through the Hp Smart app

I just bought the new HP Envy 6555e right out of the box. I downloaded the Hp Smart app and I can't get the printer registered. I spent 2 hours on the phone with HP who then told me to return the printer because it has to be done through the hp smart app...is there any software anywhere for hp envy 6555e that I can just download directly onto my computer and not use the smart app? I also downloaded the HP driver compatible for Mac and it doesn't matter Bec I can't even get the software.

I am running 12.7.6

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.7

The HP ENVY 6555e All-In-One Printer is listed as supported in About AirPrint - Apple Support (en-us edition, December 13, 2024).

Provided that the printer and your iMac computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router), it should be possible to at least print without additional software/drivers.

However, the printer manufacturer may offer special software (such as HP Smart) for setup, ink management and similar purposes. In case of an ink subscription agreement, such special software may be a requirement. If for some reason it is not possible to use the special software in question on the Mac, you could perhaps investigate whether setup and registration can be done via a mobile phone instead.

That was since HP Easy Start on the Mac apparently could not register the printer, and based upon the assumption that AirPrint would work (without the need to install additional drivers) once the printer had been registered via an HP Smart app on another device. I do not know whether you have an ink subscription agreement, etc.

You mentioned that printing from the iPhone was OK. If this was without using an additional app from HP, AirPrint as such seems to be working.

Have you also tested the HP Smart for Desktop app on the Mac?

Sorry, I have no further ideas.

First of all, make sure that the printer(s) and the Mac are properly connected to a network provided by the Wi-Fi router (not to be confused with a network provided by the printer itself for Wi-Fi direct).

Any information about the Wi-Fi router?

Have you tried a full power-cycle sequence (see the other topic)?

Has the printing system been reset on the Mac (see the other topic)?

If necessary, try to register the printer via an HP Smart app for iPhone, iPad, or an Android phone (see above).
