Unable to remove Activation Lock on iPhone 12 Pro Max

Hi, I hope you're doing great. My name is Mehar, and I’m from Pakistan. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max that is currently iCloud-locked. I forgot my iPhone passcode, and when I tried to reset my Apple ID password, I couldn't because I lost the 28-digit security key.

This phone was purchased by my uncle, who lives in the U.S. He bought it from an Amazon store. He contacted the seller, and I reached out to Apple Support as well. They asked me to fill out a request to remove the Activation Lock. I submitted the request and provided the original invoice that came with the iPhone, an invoice from the Amazon seller, and an Amazon sales receipt. However, despite trying multiple times, I keep receiving the same response: “We are unable to complete your request to remove Activation Lock.” Now I don't know what kind of information they need just to remove my Apple ID from my iPhone.

Please help me with this.

Apple does not get involved in any third party sales. A receipt from an Amazon seller is not going to be adequate as even I could print out a receipt that would not prove ownership of any device. You would need an original receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple seller that includes the serial number of the device and would have had to been purchased by you. There is no chance you are going to get the Activation Lock removed.

The 28 character key to access your account is required without another trusted device that is signed into your account. That is an optional layer of security that was set on your account and prevents any other method to reset your password using Account Recovery.

I think Amazon also displays non-authorized resellers. It may depend upon from which seller on Amazon you got it. Unfortunately Apple doesn't make this easy since it doesn't mention online resellers at all (at least nowhere that I have found), only those in physical locations. Find Locations Look up "Amazon" and all it shows you are cellphone stores and Costco-s near Amazon warehouses.

From what I can tell, Apple stopped authorizing online resellers about 8 years ago. There may be some still grandfathered in.

They told you the information you needed to send in, but absolutely did not tell you it would be adequate to remove the Activation Lock as that is not a decision they can make. They were simply trying to help you gather the information to send in.
