USB to hdmi adapter driver installation

Im attempting to hook up a monitor to my laptop (OS 10.12) I purchased 2 adapters (Winraybot and GitHub). I have Nortin software which Ive disabled. I have also disabled computer security. I am able to download the driver applications in both instances but when I get to the "install" button it is grayed out. I went to the Github website to download and install that way but no luck there either. I can't even find a Winraybot website. What am I missing?

IMHO, I would not use an adapter that needs a driver for it to work. I used to use a Tripp Lite USB C to HDMI Video Adapter before getting a dock that had a built in HDMI output.

Generally, you don't want to mess with third party cable adapters. I have had too many issues.

Get Apple adapters instead if possible.

But it sounds like you are using a Hub and not a cable adapter.

In which case, those hubs better be certified to work with Apple Macs and the MAC OSX you are using.

If not, they will not likely have the appropriate software. I try to stick with Belkin hubs because I know they are designed for Apple products.

Assuming there is proper software that can be downloaded, you may be running into Apple's software protection mechanism that will not allow download of software outside of the Apple store.

You would then need to disable that protection mechanism to allow downloads from third party websites.

When downloading, they will ask if you trust that website. You will have to indicate yes that you do and take the risk.

Good luck.

I searched for a Winraybot USB to HDMI adapter. Up came a listing on Amazon for a device that plugs in via USB-A or USB-C, has two HDMI ports, and supposedly can drive two monitors with a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz from a USB-A (USB 3.0) port. The thing requires the installation of a driver.

Pretty clearly a device using a "stunt box" workaround instead of first-class hardware-supported display output.

The description says that the device has "Support for Mac OS 10.15 and above" and is "Not for … Mac os lower than 10.15". Your tag line says that you are running macOS 10.12 (Sierra), which is several versions lower than 10.15.

I do not know if your MacBook Air is recent enough to be able to run macOS 10.15 (Catalina); and if you could install Catalina, that would break 32-bit applications.

I purchased a Belkin INC002 Displaylink USB-C Dual Display Docking Station that has Dual Link software for the Mac. I was able to get this up and running with my MacBookAir M2 and an external monitor. It should be able support one more external monitor. Buy a Belkin product instead of those off brands.
