Stage Manager fails terribly with regards to external monitor support…

Having some serious issues with Stage manager when using external monitor. I’m a Photographer and when I try to do any post processing I use the combination of Lightroom and Afinity Photo 2. Lightroom for iPad works perfectly fine on it’s own. However, when I go to export to Afinity Photo ( or even Photoshop for that matter) the Afinity UI gets extremely glitchy. The image opens, and is viewable, but all of the UI tools disappear and there is no way to navigate anywhere within the program.

Apparently this is a known problem since the dawn of Stage Manager’s release. My question is, why would Apple release something that is meant to be helpful when all it has done is mess everything up. When not using an external monitor, everything works just fine.

This needs to be brought to the forfront of issues that need to be addressed right away. There is no reason why this should not work properly, I’m actually quite surprised that an option that is supposed to manage app space was even released without it being 100% compatible with all currently functional apps.

Never figured Apple to take one step forward, to only trip four steps back. Fix this

Current setup for reference:

  • 6th Gen M2 iPad Pro 12.9 iPadOS version 18.2.1
  • Asus ProArt PA279CRV 27” external display.
  • Magic keyboard, mouse and trackpad
  • Anker 565 11-in-1 USB C Hub

iPad Pro, iPadOS 18

Given that your problem appears to be specifically with Affinity Photo, you would be well advised to first seek assistance from Affinity - as they are best placed to be able to address issues with their App when used in certain hardware configurations:

How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

Affinity have extensive technical help available from their own website - and are generally very responsive in providing help or assistance with their products.

If instead you have a broader problem with Stage Manager, you would be well advised to seek assistance from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-support/id1130498044

You can also submit a Bug Report via Apple's Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

When submitting your Bug Report, please ensure that you include details of your iPad model and installed version of iPadOS within the body-text of your report along with details of the problem. Do not rely upon the pick-list - as this rarely includes the current version of iPadOS.

Actually, that is precisely what I did. This was of course after I read many threads stating that ever since Stage Manager was released nothing seemed to work correctly, and not only with Afinity. I believe I mentioned that in my original post.

Either way, there is more than one variable involved here and the only one that is conveying anything is the consumer. I’ve done my due diligence, I’ve reported the problems. I’m merely stating my frustrations working in a envirorment where things should work but they don’t. Perhaps I was misled in to thinking it was supposed to.

I appreciate the relpy, hopefully the issues get cleared up sooner rather than later.
