Clean My Mac take renewal payment even though subscription cancelled.

Hi all, I subscribed to Clean My Mac on the Apple App Store a year ago but it really didn’t help so I cancelled the subscription after a few months. Today exactly one year on I’ve had a payment taken from my account directly from Clean My Mac (Paddle.net) circumnavigating the Apple account.

Apple can’t help as they say the payment isn’t showing up on their system and have told me to contact the vendor directly. I’ve done that without much success yet but how can Apple avoid all responsibility here? It was set up through their App Store and they can see the original subscription, plus how did Paddle get my credit card details? (Which I’ve now blocked through the card company). There’s something off here.
