How do I reinstall Mail to my 2014 MacBook Pro running on Big Sur?

I was having all sorts of problems sending and receiving emails on my 2014 Macbook Pro. I had backed everything up with Time Machine as well as using Apple's storage or 2tb. I thought I was all set. It had been suggested to delete Mail completely and then reinstall. Deletion wasn't a problem, straight forward.

The problem began when I tried to reinstall it. I wasn't allowed. Reading through a search on Google, it would appear I will have to reinstall my macOS and Mail will come with it.

How do I find, how to reinstall macOS 11.7...?

Use macOS Recovery

If you want to reinstall macOS, or your Mac doesn't start up all the way because it doesn't have a working operating system, you can use the built-in Recovery system to reinstall macOS.

To specifically address the " can not send or receive email " issue

There are several trouble shooting actions outlined from Apple 's Link below

Some of which include testing via webmail ie Web Portal of your email account, Check email quotas and Remove your email account, then add it back

If you can’t send or receive email on Mac

First I apologize for the delay in response. It is school summer holidays in Australia and as a grand dad, I am on constant call. Schools back in session next week so I can give this issue my attention.

Thank you for your information on how to reinstall macOS 11. The computer is running faster. Must have needed a reinstall. The problem with Mail is still ongoing. I tried to complete the installation and reinstall the data for my email accounts. It said there was 36k+ of messages (can't remember the correct term) to download. It proceeded but stopped and with following message.

The import failed. An error occurred during the import. Make sure you have available space in your home folder and try again.

I have 175gb available on my HD. I cannot find anything about a home folder. Suggestions please???

Is would appear, the " 36k+ of messages " may contain file attachments like pictures, videos that are associated the over abundance of " 36k+ of messages "

The file attachments in these email will occupy more space, on the computer, than is available on the computer.

Not sure but guessing you maybe importing the emails from a Time Machine Backup ?

How to reinstall macOS

But it will allow you reinstall macOS 11 Big Sur on top of your existing Bug Sur

It should over-write and corrupted or missing elements of the operating system

Leave everything else intact
