Inquiry About Warranty and Service for iPhone 15 Pro (US Variant)

Hi,

I recently started using an iPhone 15 Pro (US variant), which I got from my brother. The device still has 8 months of warranty remaining as per the check on Apple's website. However, I do not have the original purchase bill or box since it’s a US variant and was purchased second-hand.

I have a few questions regarding warranty and service:

  1. Will I be able to claim warranty services for hardware issues at Apple-authorized service centers in India?
  2. Are there any specific limitations or steps I need to take because this is a US variant?
  3. Is the warranty valid internationally, especially for hardware repairs or replacements?

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or insights from the community or Apple experts on this matter.

Thanks in advance!

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

Note this statement from mobile device warranties:

"IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD, APPLE TV, HOMEPOD, AND APPLE VISION PRO SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, HomePod, and Apple Vision Pro to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device."

If you are not in the country where the device was purchased, there is no guarantee of getting warranty repair. Your best chances are to ask to speak with an Apple supervisor or Apple Store manager (not a lower tier employee) who is familiar with the warranty (i.e., that the “may” means it does not outright deny any kind of service) and who will be trying to work with you to find a satisfactory arrangement. Apple wants you to be a satisfied customer. If you visit a store, make sure it is an Apple Store. An authorized service provider (AASP) may only have limited access to parts and may be mostly interested in selling things. You want an actual Apple employee who is higher up and will be more likely to try to work with you for a solution. Keep in mind you may also have to be prepared to not get an identical configuration of device. iDevices and parts from another region model may not be available in another country. You will ultimately have to decide what kind of compromises you are willing to accept or if it is best to wait until the item can be returned to the country where you bought it. You would have to do that yourself, or arrange for a friend in the country to send it in for repair. Apple does not do international shipping.

Apple does not have an International Warranty. Warranty service may be limited. Your best warranty service will be through Apple Retail Stores in several major cities in India.

Authorized Apple Service Providers may refuse service. They are independent businesses and they have the right to refuse service.

Some hardware repairs may be available through Apple Stores. Product replacement may not be possible or may come with restrictions or limitations. Some repairs may require the return of product to US.

Will I be able to claim warranty services for hardware issues at Apple-authorized service centers in India?

That decision will be made by the service center in India. For example, they may or may not not be able to obtain parts for a U.S. version of an iPhone.

Are there any specific limitations or steps I need to take because this is a US variant?

Contact an authorized service center and ask them whether or not they can handle warranty repairs on your iPhone purchased in the U.S.

Is the warranty valid internationally, especially for hardware repairs or replacements?

Not in my experience, but I was looking for service in Mexico for an iPhone purchased in the U.S. on one trip and service performed in Italy for an iPhone purchased in the U.S. on another trip.

My advice would be to assume that the U.S. purchased phone will not be covered under the warranty if you need to have the phone serviced in India.

Apple does not have an International Warranty.

On first glance, they do. The Apple Store in Fort Worth, TX provided this document to a friend who lives in Mexico that was interested in purchasing a phone in the U.S.

You really have to dig deep in the fine print though to find this phrase:

"......However, service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested....."
