VPN update recommendations for Mac on Catalina

None! Mac OS does not require or benefit in ANY fashion by adding any of the following types of third party apps:

• Antivirus
• Cleaning
• VPN
• Security
• Maintenance

These apps do nothing that Mac OS cannot already do and they do nothing to enhance the users security or user experience. What they do do is make Mac OS unstable, act buggy, make it slow and do NOTHING in positive in return. In short DO NOT install any.

To add and emphasize KiltedKim's suggestion: unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's, school's or bank's servers, they provide false security from a privacy standpoint.  Read these articles:  Pubic VPN's are anything but public and Security Risks: The Dangers of Using Free VPNs (eccu.edu).  

They can also interfere with internet access as we've seen in numerous cases here.

Support for obsolete macOS Catalina and older Macs is headed into oblivion for all apps - Apple and 3rd party alike. Your only choice is to replace your Mac with new. Good luck!

Get rid of the VPN entirely. It is doing nothing to protect your privacy or secure your data.

VPNs are designed to connect you securely to a private network such as your employer or school so that you can access resources on their network.

I understand your reason for wanting to use it, but what you're doing is potentially illegal.

Using a VPN to get around geographic restrictions violates the terms of the owner of the material. If they have decided not to license it for release in your country, you are potentially violating the law by using a VPN to falsify your location.

As long as that is all you use it for then NordVPN would be a good choice. I wouldn't use it for anything else. If you have any issues with the internet I'd totally disable the VPN app and see if the issues clear up.

Your interpretation of the terms is incorrect.

OP will make up his mind on that (assuming he hasn’t already). He’s been wise IMO to ignore the noise thus far. I wouldn’t hold breath for a response IIWY.

Upgrade your OS. Upgrade your Mac if necessary.

Unless specifically required by an employer, financial institute or educational facility, VPNs aren't recommended and are often implicated in misbehavior on the Mac.
