Stop Apple Pay launching automatically near NFC readers

This question has been asked many times, and nobody has given an answer that works.

I'm a very satisfied user of Apple Pay. I like to launch it with a double-click of my side button. I do NOT want it to launch by itself. Is there any way to turn that off?

At my company, I'm able to use a background iOS process to open doors. It works great, but it means I see my credit cards every time I move around the office.

Ideally, double-clicking the side button would be the only way I ever get to my Wallet. Is this configurable?
