Replaced Faulty Telstra Sim in Iphone 12 & some text messages are gone

Hey guys & girls,

I recently had issues with my Iphone12 not accepting calls or text messages, so after much investigation at Apple and Telstra it appeared my sim card was damaged.

When the gentleman at Telstra said I need a new sim I asked like 4 times will I lose any data, messages or anything, and he kept telling me no nothing is stored on the sim card.

Now it appears he was wrong, and some text messages are missing, & as the days go on I find more missing messages when I go to text a friend, family or work colleague,

Question is "How can I recover these text message history", and I cannot restore from back up as the last back up was 4 weeks ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The messages (iMessages, SMS, and MMS) stored on an iPhone are saved locally on the device and are not tied to the SIM card, phone number, or service provider. Here’s a detailed explanation:

  1. iMessages: These are stored on the device itself and, if iCloud Messages is enabled, also synced to iCloud. Changing your SIM card, phone number, or carrier does not impact iMessages stored locally or in iCloud.
  2. SMS/MMS: These are stored locally on the device as part of your message history. They are not linked to your SIM card. Changing your SIM or phone number will not affect the existing messages on your iPhone.
  3. Message Missing: If a message is missing after a SIM card or carrier change, it’s likely due to another issue, such as:
    1. Messages were never backed up or synced with iCloud, and the device was reset.
    2. Corruption of message data.
    3. Accidental deletion of messages.
    4. Temporary glitches requiring a restart or system update.
    5. Incorrect Message Settings: If the Messages setting Keep Messages is not set to Forever, older messages may be automatically deleted. You can check this setting under Settings > Messages > Keep Messages and ensure it is set to Forever to retain all messages indefinitely.

To safeguard your messages, it’s recommended to regularly back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer. If you notice missing messages after a change, troubleshooting should focus on restoring a backup or addressing device-specific issues, not the SIM card or carrier switch.
