No need to be confused. Currently the law that imposes fines on Google, Apple, and Microsoft has NOT been overturned. It has not been done by Congress and the Supreme Court has not ruled that an Executive Order can eliminate those fines.

The fines on those companies are only for new downloads in their App Stores, so you can continue to use a previously downloaded app or access TikTok on the web using Safari. There has been no permanent solution, so the future of TikTok is still in limbo.

Oh boy, not sure where you are getting your information, but clearly you need to evaluate your sources:

  • Congress placed fines on both Google and Apple for allowing any downloads of the app in either the Google Play Store or the App Store.
  • The fines does not effect previously downloaded apps.
  • The Supreme Court upheld those fines.
  • Congress has NOT repealed those fines.

That leaves you with using a previously downloaded app or access TikTok on the web for now. Under the law TikTok must still divest to a US company, so act quickly as even that may be ended shortly. Currently there are about 54 days left for that to happen and there is no guarantee that TikTok will divest before that time. Apple does make it very clear and apparently you have not even read the information that had been provided here:

About availability of TikTok and ByteDance Ltd. apps in the United States - Apple Support

Please read more of the information that has been provided so you have a better understanding. In a previous post you claimed the reason was because it was an app from Japan, and that is not even true. ByteDance is the company that owns TikTok and it is based in China. Spreading false information may be something you see on many Social Media sites, but you will not find it here on this Support Site. It is actually important that what is posted is factual and there really is no place for false rants.

The ban, and the fines, seems to apply to in-app purchases, too. Apple says that in the U.S., "in-app purchases and subscriptions" for banned apps "are no longer possible." The law prohibits "providing services to distribute, maintain, or update" a "foreign adversary controlled application."

The law's definition of "foreign adversary controlled application" includes Web sites. This may make life rather "interesting" for any U.S.-based Internet hosting company who hosts the TikTok Web site.

It is banned. The law is written to make it easy for the Government to enforce the ban. It is easy for them to go after Google and Apple and say "You could have stopped distributing the app, but you chose to break the law – and you are now liable for ruinous fines." (Fines of $5000 per user. There were 170 million TikTok users in the U.S., and if Apple and Google broke the law 170 million times, they could be fined $850 billion USD. Which is a large fraction of what all of the stock of both companies, put together, is worth.)

The law does not require deleting existing copies off people's phones. Congress clearly would prefer that U.S. residents stop using TikTok in any form unless a qualified divestiture is carried out. But maybe Apple or Google told Congress that "we can comply with a law to stop distributing new copies, but we're not set up to be able to reach into people's phones to delete existing ones."

Whatever the reason for the ban being structured in the way that it is, the wording of the law is clear, and both Apple and Google must comply with it.

Can y’all please bring back TikTok because I feel like y’all should’ve never took it and a lot of people are getting new phones So they cannot get TikTok no more so I think y’all should bring it back up in the App Store because I got a new phone and I cannot get TikTok. Can y’all please please please please bring it back like I’m begging y’all

Uh Oh, you failed to read any of the posts here, otherwise you would understand why it is not in the App Store:

  • The law passed by Congress placed fines on both Google and Apple for allowing any downloads/redownloads in their App Stores.
  • The Supreme Court upheld the law.
  • Apple must follow the law.
  • That is why it is not on the Google Play Store either.
  • ByteDance must still divest to a US company. Currently that has not happened and there is no guarantee it will. The days are numbered even for web access and access by a previous download. There are about 53 days left.

If you have any questions about the law or want to share your feelings about it, then contact your Congressional Representatives that passed it. Do you know who they are and how they voted? Posting on an Apple Support site will have no effect on any changes in the law.

The ban isn’t being enforced on app stores but Apple and Google have not brought the app back to their stores.

But it could be. Apple and Google are being prudent, as their shareholders should expect, and not risking $5000 fines per user.

Even if the ban is lifted (as can only be done the way Servant of Cats explained), I suspect it's possible for Apple or Google to still choose not offer the app.

Make plans accordingly.

Yes, Congress does know that a lot of people access TikTok using the TikTok app for iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and Android tablets. That's why Congress wrote the legislation to prohibit companies like Apple and Google from helping to distribute, maintain, or update the app!

Congress saw the ban as a good way to cut off the "foreign adversary controlled application" – either immediately, or, over time, by attrition.

like come on, wait if the app was accidentally removed from their phone or iPad due to a device malfunction.

Congress clearly intends for

  • TikTok to address their national security concerns, or
  • TikTok to be gone from the U.S.

Where "gone" can be due either to "no new distribution" or to attrition.

Nobody knows if or when it will come back. The law that was passed by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court has not been repealed and there is no intention to do that. Currently TikTok must divest to a US company in order to allow distribution of the app again and they have not done that either. The days are numbered, so there is no answer.

TikTok was banned and remains banned.

The law does not require Apple or Google to delete copies already on phones, but does prohibit distributing, maintaining, and updating the app. If the service breaks because people cannot get updates, that is an intended effect of the law.

You are not addressing Apple, and your demand to bring TikTok back now, while it is illegal for Apple or anyone else to do so, will get you exactly nowhere.
