Endless iCloud login loop on Windows 11

The "endless loop" problem, already reported by other users in april 2024, is now back on my Windows 11 desktop computer. It happened after installing Windows 11, KB5050021 (OS-builds 22621.4751 en 22631.4751). This update cannot be reverted.

Hey!

I've had a similar issue, the app completely broke and after logging in, it was just spinning forever.

After resetting data and restarting the app and my computer a couple of times I managed to get it to log in properly, but then it wasn't syncing with the cloud, and I couldn't access my drive, photos, and passwords on my Windows 11 PC.

What fixed it for me, was:

  1. Uninstall the microsoft store version of iCloud.
  2. Find an older "Traditional Installer" version of the app, not the microsoft store one and install it (I installed version 7.21.0.23 of iCloud for Windows with and installer I found on TheAppleWiki).
  3. After installing, it will ask to restart your PC, do that.
  4. After restarting, you can log in, it should work fine from there, open up the app and start syncing your stuff.
  5. Now, you're half done, you want to install the microsoft store version of iCloud on top of the one you just downloaded and installed.
  6. When installed, it will ask you to log in again, and now it will log in fine, and start syncing your stuff.

The only thing I found, is that iCloud Photos don't seem to be syncing properly (or just very slow?), and they don't appear for me but the drive and passwords both sync fine, I've also did more testing with Passwords and Keychain and it should work.

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you and see if it works for others too.

Windows 11 updated late night on 10th Feb, everything worked fine on the 12th, and on the 13th PC was fine from 1000 until 20.15 when the pop up began yet again and would not let me sign in. The only thing I had done was unpair my old Apple Watch from my phone as I now have the 10. Now to try all over again. I noticed in task master all the icloud items I had disabled had been re-enabled at some point, but not by me (sole user of the PC).

So many people have this issues on Win 11 after one of the more recent updates! Thank you!

THIS WORKED!!!

I think the crucial step was to install that legacy installer iCloudSetup v7.21.0.23 [Sep 2020] - then let it sync - and only then simply install the latest iCloud via the Microsoft Store app on top.

Thank you so much!

As I've been housebound for some time I had not set two factor authentication on my iphone. Today I received my new Apple watch 10 which insisted I had to have two factor authentication so have set that up. And now icloud keeps giving me that pop up which then prevents me doing anything until I close the two screens, and within 30 seconds it is back.

Kept telling me to sign in to one of my devices for an authentication code, I was already signed in to my phone and unlike when I used my ipad and a code was automatically sent on to my phone, nothing happened.

I've stopped icloud opening at start up on my PC (Windows 11 - all W11 updates have been installed)

I don't use icloud to back up photos or my devices, purely to transfer pdfs such as manuals, tickets, timetables.

I've uninstalled icloud app but this now means I cannot sync any of my pdfs into files to be able to read them on my device (some are too large to attach to an email).

I shall try the recommendation in ronidy's post.

One thing I just noticed when I accepted icloud (from the link given so its a legacy version at the moment) was turning off automatic updates which I missed last time so it was on. I'm going to wait a while before installing the up to date app.

Have to say that since Apple changed itunes for windows into itunes/music/tv/devices and cloud I have had more problems than since I bought my first 40GB iPod in 2004 and my usual enjoyment of anything Apple is seriously down.
