iPhone 15 plus was bought in the USA and I want too use it in Mexico with a Mexican carrier, is it possible?

I recently moved too Mexico and I want too know if my iPhone will work with a Mexican carrier. It’s an e-sim so I am clueless.

That will work as long as you find a carrier that supports eSIM. But keep in mind, iPhones are sold region specific meaning your iPhone will face different features, warranty support, etc. For example, Warranty and AppleCare+ only apply to your region of purchase, meaning you will have to go back to the US for service. Next time it's always good to purchase your Apple products where you reside.

I bought it from a shop with progressive leasing. How do I check if it’s locked?

To see if your iPhone is carrier locked, go to Settings > General > About. There it should say either "No SIM restrictions" or "SIM locked." It's likely that your iPhone is carrier locked with progressive leasing as you must pay off the lease agreement.

No, Progressive Leasing is a US finance company and the primary lender at Best Buy and several other major retailers. They are not a carrier, so I don’t see how they can lock the SIM. Maybe they have an agreement with the major US carriers.

It should be easy enough for the owner/OP to contact the lease company and inquire about any SIM lock.

Has it been qualified yet what carrier he wants to use?

BestBuy doesn't sell unlocked iPhones. They are kind of unlocked at purchase, but will lock to one of the major carriers in the US, which a buyer needs to choose. It the phone was purchased through this progressive leasing at a BestBuy store, it is going to be carrier locked to one of the major US carriers. Which would logically present a major problem if the buyer then decided to take the phone to Mexico to set up with a carrier there.

That’s interesting. I called my local store and they have multiple iPhones that are unlocked and all their refurbished iPhones are unlocked.

I chatted first before I called my local store and here’s the transcript.

After chatting I called the local store and they confirmed they are fully unlocked, not what are known as Flex Phones. The store confirmed I could finance an unlocked iPhone through Progressive Finance.

Flex Phones are unlocked, but lock to the first SIM card inserted for activation. Most carriers will unlock Flex Phones after 40 days.

Actual customers who come here and suggest their experience is different is what I go by. If someone really wants a truly unlocked phone, the best advice we can offer is to buy it from Apple. Buying an iPhone in one country to be used in another is yet another reason a customer should be concerned.

Hopefully, the author will come back and let us know what their real world experience was in this regard.
