If you buy the iPhone in the US it supports eSIM only, so you will have to see if their carrier supports eSIM. Here is information on Carriers supporting eSIM in Mexico: Find wireless carriers and worldwide service providers that offer eSIM service on iPhone - Apple Support

If the phone needs service and it is a US iPhone it may be difficult to obtain repairs or warranty coverage in Mexico, and it may have to be returned to the US.

Also, note that you must be physically in the US to purchase a US iPhone on Apple’s website, and must have it delivered to a US address. Of course, if you are in Mexico you can purchase it on Apple’s website in Mexico.

FWIW, Mexico is eSIM only for iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air is eSIM always everywhere.

And yes, the potential for warranty and repair coverage complexity remains the biggest issue.

To the OP, here are some carriers:

https://www.telcel.com/esim

https://www.movistar.com.mx/esim

etc…
