I am unable to connect new Bluetooth keyboard to iMac after power outage

Two weeks ago my cordless keyboard died and while a new one was being ordered, a power outage shut down my iMac. Now, with a new keyboard, I am unable to log on to my iMac due to not having new keyboard connected by Bluetooth to the iMac.

Now, that I have a new cordless keyboard, I am unable to connect it to the iMac to be able to sign in. What is my solution? Thank you!

My fault. The newer Apple Magic Keyboards, ones without batteries, come with a charging cable. If yours uses batteries, make sure they are fresh and the keyboard is switched on. If that doesn't work, get an inexpensive USB keyboard and use it to log in then hopefully add the wireless keyboard in System Preferences > Bluetooth.

This will work:

The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!

1.     Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.

2.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

3.     Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

4.     Turn off Bluetooth

5.     Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

6.     Restart the computer normally.

7.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

8.     Turn on Bluetooth

9.     Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

10.  Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.
