My iPhone 15 plus has been shutting off randomly for a few months. Today soon as I turned it on I had a message: unrecognized battery. I bought this phone new 1 year ago & have not changed anything to it. All updates are up to date? Why would it not recognize the battery? And I don’t live any where near an Apple Store.

Sounds like the battery is defective. Did you buy it from Apple or a third party reseller?

You have a faulty battery and it will need to be replaced.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have it diagnosed.

It is not necessary to take the phone to an Apple Store for service. Chances are, you have an authorized Apple service shop much closer.

One other thing I’d like to mention, prior to this unrecognizable battery message, my Iphone 15 Plus would & continues to shut off randomly. I could be typing a message & it shuts off, watching a video, scrolling social media, etc. it happens so much that at times (esp during a video), the video will cut or delay then it freezes then phone shuts off. So while watching videos I can tell by what the video does that my phone will shut off. This has been happening since January 2025. It’s an everyday, anywhere issue. What could this be?
