Opt out of Starlink coverage on iPhone?

I saw that Apple would be partnering with Starlink for satellite messaging coverage and I'd like to ensure that there is a way to opt out of this as a personal choice.

There are two separate satellite-related communications paths associated with Apple,kPhone, given the recent announcement.

There is the original out-of-coverage satellite access provided by Apple, and that coverage involves Globalstar.

There is now the recently-announced direct-to-satellite cellular, and that depends on the chosen cellular carrier and cellular plan. That includes the T-Mobile coverage (currently in beta) involving Starlink.

If you don’t want any dealing with SpaceX Starlink, then you’ll want to discuss that with T-Mobile if they’re your carrier, if (when?) the T-Mobile direct-to-satellite beta concludes with general coverage availability. Or discuss that preference with whatever other terrestrial carriers might eventually add Starlink coverage, or with whatever carriers might align with Kuiper*.

The recent announcement around Apple was the addition of Apple iPhone to the T-Mobile beta, as that beta was previously only available to Android devices.

*if and when the Kuiper constellation comes online, and if and when Kuiper then adds direct-to-satellite coverage.

What partnership are you talking about? Apple has not partnered with Starlink. T-Mobile has partnered with Starlink, although that is a service you would have to specifically sign up for. T-Mobile first provided the service to Android customers that signed up for it. Apparently your issue is with T-Mobile, and you are free to use any cell provider you wish.

How can we opt out of Starlink/Musk’s iOS?

Are you with T-Mobile? They have partnered with Starlink. Apple has not.

Even if you are with T-Mobile, you have to Opt In for the Beta test.

So, there is no need for you to Opt Out, since you did not Opt In.

Once the Beta has completed......then.....you can ask T-Mobile to Opt Out.

The important item to remember........Apple has not partnered with Starlink. Apple has partnered with another satellite service. T-Mobile has partnered with Starlink. So,, if you are a T-Mobile customer, you may want to look for another provider. All the details are here: The Starlink Myth - Apple Community

Apple has not partnered with Starlink. T-Mobile is the company that partnered with Starlink. Apple is part owner of an entirely different satellite company to provide SOS service on iPhones.

You have to remember that changes happen all the time when technology is involved. The original post is almost 3 weeks old. About a week ago t-mobile expand their beta program to non t-mobile subscribers for a few months. This a marketing ploy to all non-subscribers to try the new service for free in the hopes of attracting new subscribers. T-mobile has stated that the service will transition to a paid service in July. The service is limited to text for now, but will add voice and data in the future. It still requires you to become a t-mobile subscriber in the future if you want to continue the service.

If you have T-Mobile yes it is. The fact that this is all over the news and nothing from Apple is deeply disturbing. We want to opt out. Period.

If you use T-Mobile, and sign up for satellite, you will connect to Starlink. If you have issues with that, contact T-Mobile. It remains that satellite connection is not mandatory (you must opt-in) nor is Starlink installed on your device.

From my understanding if the linking is possible it would show up in the privacy settings-> system services-> satellite connection (on/off).

Apple offers a system based on Globalstar:

The SpaceX Starlink system involves a T-Mobile beta for T-Mobile customers, and a beta that was previously only available to Android devices:

You’re simplifying too much. iPhones contain cellular modems that cellular service providers can connect their services to.

Each carrier is restricted to the cellular wavelengths they lease from the government.

Starlink is licensed by FCC to operate in US on n51 band. T-Mobile has the lease for the wavelengths n51 uses. Starlink is therefore limited to T-Mobile in the US. If you’re not on T-Mobile, you do not have access to T-Mobile services, including Starlink.

Yet ANOTHER, who didn't bother to read past the first post. Read the thread and then realize how uninformed you are. APPLE HAS NOT PARTNERED WITH STARLINK. T-Mobile has.

In which case you're in the clear since Apple has not partnered with Elon Musk or Starlink.

And I bought my first Mac in the 90s. Have all Mac products now. That will not continue if they continue if this partnership does.

There is no partnership between Apple and Musk. If you'd bothered to actually read the responses here, you would know that.

At the very least an Opt-Out option for Starlink but in all honesty I expect better from you Apple than doing business with someone as Elon Musk.

There is no opt-out of something you have to OPT-IN to at the "very least." Apple isn't partnered with Starlink or Musk. T-Mobile is in the U.S. Arming yourself with facts before you respond to the very first post would have eliminated your need to comment in the first place. I talked with T-Mobile customer service. It was explained to me the beta is optional, the service won’t be added into anyone’s existing plans. Nothing has been finalized with how it will roll out past the beta. Again, this was from my phone call with T-Mobile customer service. The reason I called is they didn’t mention in the original beta email that it was Starlink, so I opted-in to try it but never completed the form. They said I do not have access on my account and my iPhone 15 Pro Max will default to Globalstar for emergency services from Apple.

Elon said he’s giving T-Mobile one year exclusivity and he will make it available for any other carrier who wishes to use it.

I look at it this way, I’m on Magenta and I’m likely not going to see this added to my plan.
