Why is the Apple app icon missing on my Apple TV?

I am trying to access Apple TV plus on my 3rd generation Apple TV box but I have no apple app icon on my screen

The 3rd gen doesn't run apps, just preset channels that are sent via server. A version of the Apple TV app was designed for the 3rd gen, which was pushed to the device with software version 7.3 so check what version of software is running on your device (settings - general - about). If you are running a previous version and unable to update then you may in fact have a 2nd gen.


Also be aware that the 3rd gen is no longer receiving updates and most providers have dropped support for their channels on the device.
