New iPad stuck on iCloud screen

was trying to set up new iPad when I got to the iCloud screen and it’s been stuck there for 2 days just spinning the upload icon & doing nothing. I can’t get off that screen, the back button isn’t working either. I can sign in with my log on code but that’s it. The new iPad wasn’t talking to my old iPad & visa versa. Also, I tried shutting it down but that didn’t happen either. Help!!!

There is a known issue - sometimes encountered when setting-up a new (unused) iPad and updating to iPadOS 18.x. You will need to interrupt the stalled process with a forced-restart:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

After restarting the iPad, allow the new iPad to complete initial setup and software update without attempting to transfer data, or restoring a backup, to the new device. Instead, simply set-up using your AppleID (now known as your Apple Account).

When the update process has completed, reset the iPad - and THEN perform the transfer/restore if required:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content & Settings

When transferring data between devices, keep both devices in close proximity and connected to their respective Power Adapters during the setup and transfer process. Keeping the devices connected to external power will keep the WiFi connections active.
