STEAM does not appear in an App Store search. With the new Civilization 7 game soon to arrive, and apparently only via STEAM for a MacBookPro, is STEAM a safe way to play the new game?

STEAM has told the Trade Press they think Apple's overhead rates take too much money away from them, the developers.
They have opted Not to place STEAM in the Mac App Store and pay the overhead and additional costs for additional purchases that Apple charges.
This means they need some substantial Servers to supply the software for download themselves, but they have made the business decision to proceed that way.
That does not make it inherently unsafe, PROVIDED you download DIRECTLY from the developer, not from any intermediary.
Probably because Steam has not submitted a version of their Mac app to the App store for Apple review and approval.
You can download the Steam app for Mac directly from the Steam website however.
