iMessage Hide Alerts mutes the notification, but still shows up on the iMessage icon badge.

Sometimes when someone goes on a iMessage rant, I can use the Hide Alerts feature to mute their message alerts, which works well. However, I still see those messages represented in the iMessage App icon badge.

It defeats the purpose of muting the conversation, when the iMessage icon badge attracts me to look at my messages, and it turns out its a message from the person I muted.

Is there a way to not count the messages from senders I hide alerts from in the Messages icon badge?

I tried out setting up a Focus, selected the person's contact card under Silence Notifications. I also turned on "Hide Notification Badges".

I think the "Hide Notification Badges" is App wide. That would mean I don't get any notification badges from anyone.

What I'm looking for is to specifically not get notification badges from this one contact.

Any suggestions?
