Final Cut Pro 11.0.1 Not Remembering Recent Libraries

Final Cut Pro 11.0.1 does not remember recently accessed libraries. I cleared the list, but after opening five more libraries, none are listed as they were before I cleared the list (i.e., after terminating FCP with the five opened and restarting, then list is empty).

I am on Mac OS 15.3 running FCP 11.0.1 on a fully-loaded Mac Studio Ultra M1.

I have tried the Settings Reset to no avail.

This is similar to another posting but the bug system forced me to open a new case because the other ticket had not been updated in months (and it has no useful resultion).

Mac Studio, macOS 15.3

Well, if you could see me now, you would see one great omelet on my face (i.e., egg).

As it turns out, I had incorrectly set an item in the system settings (System Settings > Control Center Modules > Recent documents, applications, and servers.) I had mistakenly set it to "none," where it had previously meant "10." I suspect that I had attempted to set an entry above it, yet I had mistakenly set the wrong entry that controls the number of "remembered" documents (in this case, Final Cut Pro Libraries). (see the attached graphic).

Thank you, everyone, for your time and suggestions. In this particular case, it's "my bad." I hope this helps someone else in diagnosing the situation.

I consider this "bug" as "user error" which can now be closed.

I just tested FCP 11.0.1 running on MacOS 15.3 on an Intel 5k iMac. Launch FCP and it opened the last library that was open. I closed the library, quit FCP, then relaunched and it presented the open dialog with the previous library in the list. I selected it to open it, then quit FCP. I then launch FCP holding the option key and it presented the open dialog with the library listed.

Have you tried deleting your FCP Settings? Hold Option and Command while launching FCP and choose Delete Preferences. It will open the default Untitled library. Re-open the library you were working on, set the Preferences back to the way you like them (disable background rendering, etc.) and see if the issue has been resolved.

Does FCP have Full Disk Access enabled?  Full Disk Access is in System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy. If you don't see FCP in the list, add it and make sure it's enabled with a check mark.

Paste the output of an https://etrecheck.com report using the "Additional text" button below in your reply. This anonymized report can assist the volunteer hivemind here to identify any potential software conflicts you may have. Some known culprits of broken FCP behavior are Google's keystone software installed along with their other software, typically Chrome, and system "cleaners" such as CleanMyMac. These can be seen in the report.

Also, all caps is unnecessary and akin to shouting.

Good sleuthing and thank you for reporting back. The behavior you described is not one that I ever recall anyone reporting here so the historically problem-causing CleanMyMac and the keystone software were prime candidates. I would suggest that if you run into odd FCP issues in the future, those two should be first on your list of suspects. CMM is considered malware around here and the guidance is always to uninstall it. Sometimes that's not enough and a complete reinstall of MacOS is necessary.

All right, now the plot thickens.

I logged on to an alternate user I have for myself on my system and started up Final Cut Pro there, and all is fine with recent libraries. This is somewhat baffling because I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled Final Cut Pro twice, deleting everything that's in Final Cut Pro in any directory, and my main user still has the problem (i.e., no recents).

So, this appears to be some kind of corruption on my main user ID that is not on my alternate user ID. The trick will be isolating it to find out what is different. Usually, when you completely uninstall, reinstall, and then relaunch, everything becomes operable again. By relaunch, I mean restart the machine and then relaunch a particular application.

If I can isolate what has gone wrong, I will post it back here. But for now, there seems to be some sort of unknown corruption with my main user ID.

Do searches here about Chrome and its keystone daemons/agents and CleanMyMac. You'll find numerous instances where these are the cause of FCP problems. For info on completely removing the cruft that Google installs, follow the instructions at https://chromeisbad.com

More updates to this problem.

It turns out I went back to the login that was working on my system mentioned above and tried a couple more clear recent in the file open library dialogue, and this problem happened there as well.

This now seems to be a FCP bug. Please note that none of the previous suggestions for this problem, such as resetting FCP settings (i.e., starting with CMD-OPT) or checking if you have full disk access (System Settings > Privacy and Security), will not resolve this problem so far.

I will post here again should I receive something from Apple or figure out this on my own.

The first thing to do is to uninstall clamxav. Third party antivirus (antivirii?) are useless and cause lots of trouble.

Oh! Wait... it gets worse, much worse!!!!

You have both "cleanmymac" and chrome on this mac. That's terrible.

You need to completely uninstall those. There is no way of knowing what mess that "brickmymac" may have done.

And for chrome and its evil 'keystone' minions, see https://chromeisbad.com

As I said in my posting, I did the settings reset. I didn’t note that I check the disk permissions and all is set.

Perhaps you would pay closer attention to postings in the future and note what is said. I also indicated that everything was working fine just prior to resetting the current list by deleting it. But thanks anyway for your posting. Thus any of the "check this or that" stuff relevant.

But thank you for your suggestions.
