I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Every day or 2 I have to reprogram my fingerprint for the reader. My software is up to date. My finger and the scanner are clean. If I program a fingerprint today, it will work all day, but tomorrow it won't read it. I can reprogram it and it will for that day then not the next day. I've had this problem for about a year. I have the same problem if I start in safe mode.

I would reinstall macOS.
You can do that without effecting your own files and data. You won't have to delete, erase, format or partition anything. But to be on the safe side it's always advised to backup you data before you do this - just in case.
Restart your MacBook Air in recovery mode and then simply select the "Reinstall macOS" app from the window. A fresh copy of the system files will be installed on the drive, replacing any that are missing or have become corrupted.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought of doing that but didn't know what would happen with everything I had on the computer. I'll try it today.
