How do I scroll back and view original message while replying in iOS-18 text app?

I have never found an acceptable answer. I respond to a text and look back to see if I responded to everything but I cannot see the last message. In the iOS-18 update you managed to totally screw up photo app and I still can’t write a long message. The photo app is a whole other story but has anyone had success with replying to message and being able to scroll back to see what the original message stated. Thank you
