Apple Watch pop up for 'Apple Account verification'

Try this: go to Settings on your Watch and when you receive the prompt, press "Enter the password for your Apple Account" (it may say "Apple ID"). A message should appear on your iPhone allowing you to use the keypad on your phone to change the password. On completion, a six digit numerical passcode should appear that you can type into the numerical keyboard which now appears on your Watch.
