iMac 27", 2019. Recently upgraded to Sequoia 15.3. This morning, my password is no longer recognized as correct. Fortunately, was able to unlock with Apple Watch, but can't reset iMac password without first entering old password, which is being rejected. Likely will request password when trying login with watch soon, so I need to resolve issue quickly. Thanks!

Mac OS does not have the ability to change its own password so there is some other explanation. However please follow the steps in:

Thanks, Varjak. Got it fixed by restarting in recovery mode, changing to new password. Now, if I can just remember that I have a new password...

A long shot, but have you tested the character entry in an app such as TextEdit to make sure that there isn't a key problem - caps lock, a stuck or broken key, etc. - causing the password not to be entered correctly?
There’s no reason you can’t now change it back.
