HP 4100 series printer keeps freezing and disappearing from network when connected to my MacBook Pro

Sometimes works when I unplug printer and restart, but not always; freezes and removes itself from network if not used within an hour or two.

Would this be the HP DeskJet Plus 4100 All-in-One series or another HP 4100 printer model?

Anyway, a full power-cycle sequence (do not forget the Wi-Fi router) may be worth testing if a printer is not properly communicating with one or more computers/devices:

  • Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac, any iPhones/iPads, and all other devices/computers.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the router.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the printer.
  • Wait a minute or two.
  • Power on the Mac, any iPhones/iPads, and all other devices/computers.

You may have to check the wireless connection as such between printer, router and Mac. Any other devices causing interference? If necessary, try to move the printer and/or the Mac. You may also want to have a look at the Wi-Fi router settings (bands, radio channels, et cetera).

I have tried all of that. Printer comes back on line for an hour or so, then goes off line and freezes up. I need to unplug it in order to restart and beging the cycle all over again. Have tried HP Smart app via iPhone as well...no luck. And by the way, that is among the clumsiest, user unfriendly, ineffective apps I have ever used...useless.
