Why does my iphone serial number start with "P"?

I recently bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I noticed that the serial number starts with the letter “P”.

I read that this usually means the device is personalized, but my phone has no engravings or custom modifications. Can someone clarify what “P” stands for in the serial number?

The starting character in the serial number is irrelevant to the new/refurbished/replacement/personalized status. Any reference to the starting character will be for the Model number, not the serial number.
