Is it safe to use a magnetic case with the iPhone 16 Pro Max? Could the magnet affect the internal components of the phone and cause damage? For example, could it cause something inside to move and potentially harm the device?

sure, the worst thing that can happen is while close the magnet can interfere with the compass in the phone
no passive magnet can really harm modern electronics, you need a pretty strong electric magnet to cause any effect.
If it's MagSafe compatible, you're fine.
If the magnets are strong enough it will interfere with the image stabilization in the camera module. Handheld photos may appear blurry when in low light conditions, indoors etc.
