Contacts app crashing when adding new contacts on MacBook Air

My Contacts app continually crashes in the middle of adding a new contact. I see that many others have the same problem. This seems to be a software problem that should be easy to fix. Why does the problem persist?

It is impossible to add a contact. After entering one or two items the edit just disappears. MacOS: Contacts is now so Slow! Editing a Contact makes Spinning Ball freeze the application up! For the last 5 years the MacOS Contacts application has been nearly unusable! Every time I select a Contact entry the system freezes. When I edit a Contact the system shows the spinning ball, and freezes. This has been unacceptable and makes Contacts unusable!!! I've been waiting for Apple to fix the bug, and after 5+ years and a ½ dozen new MacOS versions Contacts STILL freezes up! Any suggestions how to correct this?

New contacts cannot be entered in Contacts app Using a MacBook Pro and OS 13.3.1. When entering a new contact in the contact app, after one or two entries, the window closes. An entry appears as No Name with no data, just the name. Some part of the contacts app must be corrupted but I do not know where to find it. Something like a plist comes to mind but I am only guessing. Any help would be appreciated. thank you Bill
