Issues on my iPhone 12 Pro after updating to iOS 18.3.1

Since completing the update I cannot control downtime for my children's phones through Family in settings, it just freezes. I have figured out a workaround, but it is very annoying. Apple TV app won't even load, just goes to a white screen and freezes. Settings takes forever come up and trying to do anything takes a long time with lagging. And all the while the battery is getting HOT when it never did that before. I have restarted my phone multiple times and have checked for updates for the apps not working, including Apple TV, I have done all the trouble-shooting things and nothings fixes the issues. When is Apple going to fix the multiple problems this update has caused? I have noticed that I am not the only one having issues, this is VERY FRUSTRATING.

Then you may have to consider wiping and restoring from your backup.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

or

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings using a computer - Apple Support

The iOS 18.3.1 update itself is likely not cause of your issues as tens of millions of users have updated without any problems. Unfortunately in life sometimes things go off the rails for no reason. There may have been an existing glitch on your iPhone that caused the update to go south.

If you are not comfortable with restoring your device by yourself you could contact Apple Support or take the phone to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service provider for assistance.

Sorry to hear that.—iOS 18.3.1 might have bugs. Try:
1) Hard Reset (quickly press Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold Side button until Apple logo);
2) Disable unneeded Background App Refresh (Settings > General > Background App Refresh);
https://discussions.apple.com/content/attachment/51f84297-b5b5-483b-b9a2-4e811c948849
3)Check for updates(Settings > General > Software Update);
https://discussions.apple.com/content/attachment/b49eba7f-2b22-4259-b1d2-472c9b31d87b
4) Submit feedback to Apple . No clear timeline for a fix, but widespread issues often get patched in a few weeks. Good luck:)

aubreyg ~ Your iPhone 12 Pro Max could be 4½ years old and the long process of applying an iOS update to an iPhone with a weak, aging battery can be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back." Also, overheating whilst charging is often a sign of a battery issue. So...

Does your iPhone 12 Pro Max still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

Mandar ~ Although you haven't stated the battery's maximum capacity, the "Service" status indicates that the weak, aging battery needs to be replaced. And consider replacing it promptly — as your iPhone can be permanently 'bricked' if the battery completely fails during the next iOS update.

Since installing the 18.3.1 update to my iPhone 16 Pro and to my iPad Pro Gen 3, I’ve been experiencing an array of strange issues. These include random application freezes, refusal to charge (plugging into known working cables and power supplies), map overlays not showing up. In each case, the problems resolve after shutting down the device and rebooting. The only common factor in both the IOS 18.3.1 and iPad OS 18.3.1 is length of time running. I normally keep my devices alive 24/7. If I’m not using them, they are in sleep mode or on a charger. I only rarely restart them except after an update or after a rogue application hangs. These instances are becoming more frequent the longer the update is out. The non-charging is clearly an Apple issue, not a hardware issue since it occurs on two different devices of different generations purchased at different times and running perfectly before the update. The map issue is an Apple issue since it again occurs with different devices. The freezing can occur with just about any random application and more randomly - I.e. anytime.

i know several other people experiencing similar weird issues, and others.

it is hard to report these as bugs as there are no diagnostics associated.
