HomePod setup is not very loud

I am setting up 5 HomePods in my home and I am playing music but the volume is not very loud at all. I was trying to replace a standard stereo system with these but they are not powerful enough and the volume is low even when turned up to full volume Is that normal for these?

If you were used to a proper sound system they will disappoint as they can’t compare to that. Experiment with different music and don’t have them too close to the wall. They need a few inches around them and this includes other objects placed near them.

I guess it is subjective, but my stereo pair are quite loud and the bass thumping is felt while sitting on my couch 20 feet away. It is loud enough that you cannot carry on a conversion with a person sitting next to you. In my teens I had a stereo system that was louder, but each tower speaker was also 4 ft tall.

They are never going to sound like tower speakers and as Mac Jim pointed out they are reasonably loud with heavy base at full volume. Press the top or use hey siri to tell it to set volume to 100%, just in case it’s not. She will say “that’s very loud, are you sure”. You can say “set volume to 100% everywhere” to do them all or simply check on each one.

Additionally you can make sure in the Home App HomePod settings that reduce bass has not been enabled.

Note: the bigger HomePods are much louder than the minis.

Try moving them around to different areas or surface to recalibrate. They will sound louder if placed on solid wood. Use a solid surface, not wire stands.

if you have 5, you should set them up to be stereo paired. Only two of the same model can be paired, so you can have two sets of paired and the one extra. Place paired on each side of the room and select which is left or right.

Also any older music you might have does not sound as loud as music that was produced in recent years. For example the Beatles will not feel loud enough imo. A CD is much louder played through a proper sound system.

Thanks. I will move them around and see. The reduce bass is off and it’s not loud at all I’m not expecting rock band loud but I would like a little volume now and then. 100% and I can talk over it. My wife asked me to turn it up and it was at maximum volume.

I bought 2 HomePod 2 large speakers and I bought 2 original large ones and added a mini. I am not happy with them at all. Will be returning. I only opened one new one and added it to the other 3 to try out and it is not loud and honestly doesn’t sound very good. IMO there is a hole in the middle frequency that makes it sound hollow. Maybe it my home tile and wood flooring and high ceilings. I don’t know but definitely disappointed
