Overly sensitive trackpad on new MacBook Air M2

The trackpad is often highlighting and opening screen and app elements when I simply move over them, without intentionally clicking anything. I can’t find an adjustment control in settings to fix the problem.

The trackpad is too sensitive I've just got a refurbished MacBook Air running Ventura 13.3. The trackpad is way more sensitive than my old Mac and the slightest touch selects and highlights data on the screen. I've set the trackpad for a firm click but it makes no difference. Is there anything that can be done to remedy this? Since my level of understanding of how this thing works is close to zero, technical info is not helpful to me. However, I can copy and paste responses to my coder son, who will (I hope) help me out. Many thanks.

Malfunction of trackpad in Macbook Air M3 13 inch 2024 The trackpad in my MacBook Air M3 2024 is not working well. Probably it never did. The mousepointer makes unspected moves and is in fact uncontrollable. First I thought it had to do with updates in MacOS, but after several updates the problem still remains. To work in a normal manner I always have to use my bluetooth mouse. Does anybody recognize this problem and maybe has a solution?

Mouse/trackpad glitch My mouse glitches at random times while i'm using my macbook air. I'm not sure if it's the mouse of trackpad or both, but suddenly when i swipe to change screens it would not do it, or when i hover over an button for example and try to click on it, it would not click/show drop down options. Seems like a bug after updating my macOS but not sure what can help Macbook Air, M2 2022, 8GB macOS: Sonoma 14.0

Trackpad controls and adjustments can be found at Apple  menu > System Settings... > Trackpad.

You may have to scroll down the side bar in System Settings to see the trackpad controls.
