Have you actually shut-down the iPad?

By design, while the iPad is locked with the screen turned-off, the iPad is merely "sleeping". In this state, the iPad will continue to perform background housekeeping tasks, such as periodically retrieving email, indexing its file-system and performing iCloud backups - and as such, will continue to consume some power.

If you wish to fully shut-down the iPad, this is most easily achieved from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Shut down

Unless you intend to set-aside your iPad for many days, unused, fully shutting-down the iPad is unnecessary and largely unproductive.

If you have fully shut-down the iPad, you can still expect the battery charge to slowly decline by a few percent over several days. If, while fully shutting-down, you are seeing substantial decline in battery charge in a short period, your battery may have a fault or ne reaching the end of its usable life.
