Should I use a soft case or skin wrap to protect my MacBook Air M2?

I recently brought a MacBook Air M2, and already have a sleeve to cary it in, I’m a little worried about potential scratches/damages and was considering getting a soft case or a skin wrap, but I’ve heard some controversy on the topic.

I’m retired now but I spent a good 20 years supporting users and I saw more scratched up computers with skins and cases than those without. It is almost inevitable that dust will find its way between the case and computer and having the case press it into the computer will causes scratches. I’ve always just used a padded sleeve or backpack and never had any noticeable scratches.
