Moving photos and video files from iPhone to PC

Still a huge pain. Can't just connect a USB cable and cut/paste or copy/paste and then call it a day. Nope, because the phone constantly claims to have disconnected. I have to unplug, plug it back in, try again. I first ran up against this when I started making YouTube videos. I use Simple Transfer app, but it isn't free.

Connected phone to desktop using the iPhone lightning-USB cable, created a folder on desktop and nominated it to receive the data. Is a total of about 2600 items on iPhone. Seemed to go well until a series of messages inviting to skip because it couldn't be done. In the end, 1,745 items were transferred. I now have a mess. It's too hard to sift through them all to figure out what is missing, so I want to do the whole thing again. Is there another way to do it please. I don't want to use my bandwidth to do it because it will use too much data; I just want to transfer via cable from iPhone to desktop.

iphone disconnects during file transfer How can I transfer my photos from phone to pc without disconnecting all the time ? The transfer is by usb ( original usb from my phone ) , it transfers part of files, then it says the device is not reachable, or not working.....thanks!

If that iPhone supports an external thumb drive, you might format at it as exFAT and copy images to it and read it on a PC running Linux or Windows.
