Can I use Firefox as an updated browser on my 2013 iMac?

Is firefox a good choice for updated browser since can't update Safari

If Firefox is what you like to use, yes, provided you keep it up to date. You haven't mentioned which flavour of macOS your iMac has installed, but the latest a 2013 iMac can support is Catalina 10.15.7 - and this is the minimum for the latest version of Firefox.


As Safari is (generally) updated only with the OS the version of Safari on your Mac will be getting long in the tooth and ,as you've found, becoming less useful as time goes on.


As an alternative I use Brave, which I find a nimble browser on the rare occasions when I need to use something other than Safari. There are others, though I would never recommend Chrome.


Having said all that, it might be time to at least start your planning for a newer iMac. In my household we have an 2014 Mac which is still in use, but I've noticed that it's becoming less capable all the time, even with current versions of browsers other than Safari. It's never too early to have a computer upgrade plan...
