Unrecognized Apple Pay charge by Google Ads

I received my new bankcard today and added it to Apple Pay and ONLY Apple Pay. After 4 hours of owning the new bank card it got charged by Google Ads. I don't have any subscription neither Apple or Google.

What to do now?

Here’s what’s going on.

Your new card is associated with the old card. It’s considered a replacement card when a card is lost, expired etc.

Payment Network Operators (Mastercard, Visa, American Express etc.) have a service that merchants (Google) can subscribe to called Automatic Billing Updater. The merchant had your old card in the updater and when the PNO made a replacement number, the ABU updated the merchant. The Google ad subscription was billed to the new card before you even received yours probably.

The root cause is the old card had its information compromised by scammers and they have used it for various services or products.

The bank will need to ask the PNO to suspend the ABU or mark your account as fraudulent with the PNO. But just issuing new cards will not stop the fraudulent billing.

It shows up in my bank's app.
It happened before it expired too. I went in the bank told them about what happened. They said they will disable my card even if its expired.
I thought it will solve it and they wont update the services.
I didn't add my card to my Google account.

Yep, that has nothing to do with adding your card to Apple Pay. Your bank uses a Credit Card Updater that automatically gives a merchant your new card information. You can read more about the Credit Card Updater your bank uses here:

Contact your bank again, not only did they fail you, but they gave your new card details to Google to continue to charge your new card. Not sure why you left out the important fact that it happened before your card expired too, that should have been enough to realize that the charge was not due to Apple Pay. Your card would have been charged whether you had added it or not.

You had to see the transaction somewhere to decline it. Where did you see it besides the Wallet App?

If this was a replacement card for an expired one, your bank can update the card on other services automatically to the new one.

If you had the old one added to your Google Account for charges like the Google Ads the your bank may have updated it there and would then processes the charge.

As it stands, it looks like this has nothing to do with Apple, and more to do with your Bank and Google.
