Shortcuts disappeared from Desktop
My shortcuts at the bottom of the screen appear at the bottom of the screen at startup, then they disappear. I've looked in system preferences but haven't found a fix.

It sounds as if the Hiding feature of the Dock is enabled.
Move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen and the Dock should reappear.
You can change the behavior in System Settings... > Desktop & Dock.
