How do I remove a corporate security profile from my personal iPhone without losing access to iCloud?

I have a personal iphone. I worked for a company that installed their security profile. It has always been my personal device

I no longer work at this company, I do not have access to their systems anymore.

However - I still cant access my own icloud account via my iphone (it is ghosted). I think it is due to this profile.

I removed the security profile via VPN and Device Management menu as well as tried resetting my phone.

I'm afraid to erase all content - I feel when I reactivate as a "new" device it will reinstall the old security profile. I do not wish to purchase a new iphone (im not sure if it will now do the same on my new phone?)

I have no response from the company.

  1. Is this your corporate iPhone? Then please contact the system administrator of your corporate
  2. If it is your personal device, in that case, do you have any profile installed by your corporate/organisation/enterprise/School Management?
    1. Erase the profile added by you If you have installed a profile on your own --> Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple ...
    2. Or please contact the system administrator of the organisation who provided the profile to you

When a corporate profile (like a Mobile Device Management or MDM profile) is installed on an iPhone, it can control various parts of the device, including iCloud settings — but it depends on what the company has configured in that profile.

If the MDM profile enforces certain restrictions — like disabling iCloud Drive, iCloud Photos, or iCloud Keychain — those features might get turned off. In that case, data tied to those services (like photos, documents, or app data) won’t be deleted from iCloud itself, but they will be removed from the local device until the restriction is lifted.

However, if the corporate profile removes or signs you out of your iCloud Apple ID entirely, that could lead to more significant data loss on the device — like contacts, calendars, and notes if they were syncing through iCloud. Again, that data would still exist in iCloud (unless specifically wiped remotely), but it would disappear from the phone.

One big thing to watch out for: some corporate profiles can include remote management capabilities, which could let the company wipe the device entirely, including iCloud-related content.

So the loss of data on the device is possible — but whether it’s also removed from iCloud depends on the specific policies set up in the MDM profile and the actions the company takes.

Thank you, Thank you for the very detailed response. Unfortunately the company somehow must not have removed this MDM profile (it doesn't show up on my end but my icloud is ghosted). I can access my icloud via web but not through this device which is what is used the most.

I also have no way to know what exact policies company implemented on it, so it is possible (per your response) that ALL my data including iCloud could be erased if they remove it :(

I have backed up this iphone on my personal desktop (as well as icloud). So I assume I can restore this iphone from my PC backup if everything disappears from my icloud.

Only issue I see is that the PC backup will also have the MDM settings (!!)- and will reinstall it on my iphone and I will be back to square one. I worry this will happen even if I purchase a new iphone and restore it from PC backup.

Why cant Apple remove this MDM. Its my personal phone and there is proof I bought it outright.

This must be a common issue I imagine

Thanks again
